Nottuswarams

The Nottuswarams are a set of compositions in Carnatic music by Muthuswami Dikshitar in Shankarabharanam ragam. They are a fusion of old Western C lassical tunes with the tradition and richness of Carnatic music. Composed in without typical Carnatic gamakams , these compositions sound more like the Western Major Scale. Since these are much simpler to learn, it encourages children/beginners to learn Carnatic music with fun.

Level 5 – Geethams & Swarajathis

In Carnatic music, Geethams are the simplest composed pieces taught to beginners after mastering basic swaras (notes).
Swarajathis, on the other hand, are more advanced. They combine swaras (notes) and sahitya (lyrics), often in a danceable rhythm. They serve as a bridge between geethams and varnams, introducing bhava (expression), laya control, and complex rhythmic patterns.
This documents contains 12 geethams and 3 swarajathis.

Level 6 – Varnams

In Carnatic music, Varnams are comprehensive, foundational compositions that develop mastery in raga, laya, and expressive rendition. They are used to master a raga’s full scope—its notes, patterns, and emotional flavor — while also strengthening voice control, rhythm, and speed.

Level 0 – Rhymes

Rhymes are the simplest fun form of songs for kids and beginner students of music. The simple swara-based training of rhymes provide a good understanding of the seven notes of Carnatic music, in a known context of melody and rythm. It also lays a good foundation for learning the next level exercises – Sarali Varisais.

Songs & Bhajans

This document contains lyrics and notations for popular songs and bhajans. These light songs are enjoyed by everyone. Practicing these along with the rigorous Carnatic Music training will give more confidence and motivation to students.

Carnatic Krithis

Carnatic Krithis are elaborate devotional compositions that combine melody, rhythm, and lyrical poetry to express deep emotion and spiritual themes. They form the central repertoire of Carnatic music, showcasing intricate raga and tala structures with rich improvisational scope. This document contains the lyrics and notations of some Krithis.
